Originally from Desmoines, Iowa, Bret began his journey into the world of instruments at the age of nine, when he received his very first saxophone, soon thereafter realising his passion for all things brass and woodwind. After attending Western Iowa Technical College, Bret began his apprenticeship starting at "Portmans Music" In Savannah, GA and "The Brass and Woodwind Shop" , Pittsburgh, PA.
Shortly after completing his apprenticeship, Bret set up his own repair shop in Philadelphia, PA, "Gustafson Music Services". Where his craftsmanship and mild nature quickly earned him an honorable reputation within the brass and woodwind community.
Seeking a better quality of life, Bret made the hard decision to move from his little shop in Philly to Adelaide, Australia, to work with his friend, Simon Clarke, at Presto Musical Repairs. After five years of work with Presto, Bret decided once again to move in his own direction. He now spends his days in his first floor shop, just off Rundle Mall, tirelessly working away on repairs and alterations for his beloved customers. For Bret, this is not only his passion, but his life.
